Between Innings
Sunset over Fenway Park
On what turned out to be a perfect night for America’s favorite pastime, I treated my 8 year old grandson to his first baseball game at America’s favorite ballpark. The game was a bust (the Florida Marlins beat the Red Sox, 10-1) but the weather and atmosphere were fantastic. Most importantly, my grandson had a great time. His sports fandom has mostly centered around basketball and its blistering pace, so his dad (my son) and I were not sure if he’d take to baseball. But it seems he did. He asked a lot of questions at the game, and none of them were, “can we leave now?” On top of that, even with the game out of hand in the top of the 9th, he did not want to leave early. So in spite of the loss, the night was a win.
Of course I brought my camera (the real one—not the one embedded in my phone) and grabbed a couple of shots. From our roof box seats, the view of the field was cake. And the sunset that night was icing.
Even though this image was taken between innings, there are a lot of things going on that are so baseball: The pitcher is throwing warm up tosses, umpires are chatting, the infielders are tossing the ball around, the bullpen catcher is playing catch with the right-fielder.
