Old images, new project.

The Stone Mill, Lawrence

Over the past decade I spent a lot of time photographing almost every corner of the the Stone Mill in Lawrence. I’ve brought friends here to photograph it, and (with my friend Steven Perlmutter) run about a dozen photography workshops here. The building is an old friend.

So back in the spring of 2021, on the news that the Stone Mill would soon be going under the knife, I grabbed my camera and went for one last visit. I looked for new, unique compositions (like this one) and revisited old familiar compositions with my newer, higher resolution camera.

Since that final visit, I’ve been reflecting on my body of work from the Stone Mill as well as other buildings in Lawrence over the past decade. They are all either fully renovated. Exteriors modernized, interiors completely renovated and unrecognizable from the original industrial space.

With that in mind, I reached out to my friend (and fellow mill photographer) Steven Perlmutter and the Lawrence History Center and suggested we start planning a book.

This will happen. More to come.
