John Moulton Barn

Thomas A's brother

John Moulton Barn, Grand Teton National Park

The Thomas A. Moulton Barn on Morman Row in Grand Teton National Park is, by far, the most well known and probably the most photographed barn in the country. But right down the road is this one — the John Moulton Barn.

In my humble opinion, and that of my traveling and photography mates, the John Moulton Barn has much more character, presenting many more compositional options.

We visited twice: once for a pretty bland, clear sunrise, and again after our chosen sunrise location presented too thick a cloud cover. When those clouds started to clear, the sun was still low enough in the sky to produce great light through the clearing clouds. With that in mind, we headed to Mormon Row.

We spent about an hour photographing the barn and some of the other buildings on the property. It was a very enjoyable and productive session, and I’m thrilled with the images I got that morning.

This is the first one I’ll share from that morning. A pretty straightforward shot of the barn and the very cool fence line.
