Kancamagus Sunset

Longing for summer already

Kancamagus Sunset

I try to get away to New Hampshire’s White Mountains at least a couple of times a year. One guaranteed trip there is my family’s annual summer vacation in the Lincoln area. It is a week of hanging with my grown kids and spoiling the grandkids, but I try to sneak away for some photography time when I can.

The evening I captured this image, I blew off dinner with the family and took a drive up the Kanc to one of the scenic turn-offs. The sky had been partly cloudy all day, which was promising. Plus my Sky-Fire app was showing a more than 50% chance of a colorful sunset. I could get leftover pizza when I got back.

I arrived well before sunset and pre-visualized (approximately) where the sun would be dropping behind the mountains. Closer to sunset, as the sun dipped lower, I made some minor position changes.

Needless to say, I walked away happy!
