On Top of the World

A view from the top of Mt Washington

A view from Mt Washington

Sticking with the mountain theme, but from the east coast and closer to my home.

At 6,288 feet above sea level, Mt. Washington, in New Hampshire’s White mountains, is the tallest mountain in the Northeast US, and (I believe) the second tallest on the east coast after North Carolina’s Mt. Mitchell (6,684 feet).

There are three ways to get to the top of Mt Washington: You can (of course) hike, you can take the Cog Railway, or you can drive the precarious Mt Washington Auto road, as have done a number of times.

This image is from one of those drives. It was the Fall of 2017 when I brought a group of photographer friends through the White Mountains. One of my buddies had insisted that the summit of Mt Washington be added to the itinerary, so I obliged, but only on the condition that we drive the Auto Road only if the weather conditions were agreeable.

And they were agreeable.
