White Mountains Layers
From Winter, 2020
Back in the winter of 2020 I took advantage of the slow easing of local Covid Pandemic protocols and spent a couple of days in the White Mountains looking for winter landscapes. I spent two nights there, if I recall correctly. One of those nights was in Jefferson, NH. Nice town, home of Santas Village — a must visit if you are there in the summer with small children. You’ll probably hate it, but the kids will love it, so you will love it because the kids love it, and for that reason only. Trust me on this. I speak from the experience of my own kids and now their kids. But I digress.
On that one night In Jefferson, after a day of driving and shooting, I was looking forward to relaxing over a beer and sandwich in a local pub with a big TV streaming a competitive sporting event. Given that Covid restrictions were easing, I was hopeful that I would find an open pub. The competitive sporting event would have been a bonus — I was not hopeful.
My hopes were dashed. Pubs closed.
I found a pizza place — takeout only — so I settled for a small pepperoni. Next door was a beer store. The hotel had a TV in the room. All good.
This image is from the following day, taken along the Kancamagus Highway on my drive home.
