Bridal Veil Falls

A Great Destination Hike in New Hampshire’s White Mountains

Bridal Veil Falls, Franconia, NH

My annual family vacation in the White Mountains is under way — a full week of hanging with the kids and grandkids, visiting some lame amusement parks, and some short (and not so short) hikes. One of those hikes was a 2.5 mile (5 mile total) adventure with my son Ryan to Bridal Veil Falls in Franconia.

The trail is a relative easy, gradual incline along the river. It is considered a great introductory hike for kids. It lived up to that billing until the very end to the final rocky climb to the signature falls. With the heavy rain we’ve need getting this summer, that scramble was made more difficult by the water surging around the rocks.

I almost didn’t attempt the climb — I was content to grab some comps at the lower pool. But Ryan went up and back and brought back some iPhone shots. When I saw them, I knew I had to give it a shot.
